Your dosage of fun filled top drawer pool matches…
Week 5 and we are ready to deliver yet again your dosage of fun filled top drawer pool matches of the highest standard across the land. Current Premier League number one seed Sandile Madlala takes the homeward trip to the beautiful KZN where it all began, he will of course be with his tag team partner Nsovo Bana Shilolo Mathonsi in this tough adventure against Yulan Hawkeye Govender and Kyle The Viper Akaloo. This will not be an ordinary welcome home Sandile party as you all know by now that Yulan is one of the most consistent marksmen and he arguably is the best in the country and also the most decorated. Govender will take on Madlala at Swerve on Saturday and Akaloo will be entertaining Nsovo who is also another former U23 Champion at Ricochets.
Legacy and Hawkeye have met 4 times before in the BPL and Yulan has won three of the four matches but maybe, just maybe age has finally got the better of him and young blood will prevail, perhaps this trip down memory lane is what it will take for Legacy to finally outmuscle Yulan Rajendrin Govender, for years beating Hawk has been a mystery that none have yet to unearth. Nsovo has never won a match against Yulan, he has just lost three matches in a row but remains a fan favourite and one of the most promising young talents, certainly the future of cue sports, this is not to say that Kyle will be a pushover, the guy is playing some very sublime pool at the moment and I wouldn’t be surprised if he emerges smiling at the end of the weekend. In the first week, during his post match interview Madlala expressed concern about the new Kyle Akaloo. If Kyle bags the double, it certainly wouldn’t be an upset at all.
In Port Elizabeth Charl Jonck will be sharing his toys with an unpredictable Ace and it would be exciting to see if the Assassin can still hold his own after another Capetonian made perforations in his armour. Ace of course did beat Charl in their last match towards the end of last season, but then again everyone had a piece of the Assassin last season. Maybe I should take this moment to mention that the Ultimate player doesn’t exactly like to lose especially not at home and rumour has it that Ace will be spending the night at Charl’s family house and if that’s the case then we can blame the result on the pep talk that Johan Jonck (Charl’s father) will give to Yazeed.
In the First Division, an undefeated Deon Daniels also takes the trip to PE to face Mr. Padayachee who is also very unpredictable but perhaps we should trust the Cape’s number one to dominate in the warmer PE. There will be more action in Jozi at DVM and at Timeout sports bar. Azim will be taking on in-form Nico Erasmus and Keegan will look to redeem his position on the log against the African champ Ishmael Mthethwa on the same Saturday and on Sunday Azim and Keegza will swop opponents. Azim and Keegan have both played twice and won once and it could be the vast experience of the youngsters Ishmael and Nico that might be the difference. At the end of the day it is all about being able to do what you know under pressure.
Mabuti will be hosting Kevin in Mpumalanga on Saturday but no sooner as Shushu is done playing against Mabuti will he have to drive back to the city of gold to take on Zaid Kara on Sunday. Zaid is of course still searching for his first win, he has played two matches and will be glad to avoid a 3rd loss in a row but Kevin might have different ideas. If the bus won’t come to the Robot, then the Robot will go to the bus. The big question however is what colour will the Robot be and will the bus stop should the Robot be red? Thami Rea Vaya Jabavu will host Yacoob Robot Shaik and one thing that I can guarantee you is that this will not be a quick match but it will be very exciting and there will be very few mistakes but as usual the breaks will play a major role in deciding the results but so will the fans. These two will be meeting for the first time and neither would want to bow. Yacoob has 100% wins after 3 matches and the only other distinctive winner is Donovan De Doncker, the current number one seed with also 3/3 wins. The Robot will surely aim to improve his tally and be the new number one. With only 4 apples in 3 matches, one might conclude that Yacoob doesn’t have that good a break but having dropped only one set and winning six, it is only fair to say that Coobie is a very conservative player and winning is everything, and he is not one to chase after apples and all that jazz.
THE BPL NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!!
