The wait is OVER!!!
I am no Chef and neither am I a poet but I sure can boil an egg, boy these guys in the BPL can really play some jolly good pool and the way they strut their stuff is poetry in motion. Don’t miss any of the action this weekend and please make your way to the various venues for the Super Supporter Competitions as well. The wait is finally over, the league that gets every pool player and fan’s heart pounding is upon us and this time it is threefold. We have action in the Premier, First and Second divisions and a wide pool of eye candy for the fans across the country. There won’t be any break for the King of the roost Yulan Govender as he comes up to Johannesburg to take on his protégé Sbu Chillies Gumede in what is basically a sequel of last season’s closing fixture. Sbu is currently in top form and dominating the local competitions but it will take a whole lot more than form to upset Hawkeye. Yulan is not taking the inland trip alone but with a rejuvenated Kyle ‘The smiling Viper’ Akaloo, a man who has tasted relegation but came back literally instantly and rumour has it that he has new impermeable armor that gets all bullets and cheap shots to ricochet off him; well Chillies and the Dish are waiting and if there is a good litmus test for the KZN duo out there these two are just that. Wait a minute taking a closer look one might be forgiven for thinking that this is a KZN derby away from the Coastal province but make no mistake, Yulan and Kyle are not in town to deliver spices and perfume, they are here to set precedence for a humdinger of a season that will surely take the country by storm.
In Cape Town we have runner up Paul the Gentleman Bennett taking on Yazeed Y’s Ace Yster Salie at Nicks Pool and Snooker on Saturday the 4th of July and my guess is as good as yours. This will be a tightly contested one but I don’t see Paul losing in his own backyard or anywhere else in the mother city but Ace is always up for a great challenge and he packs a mean punch on a good day he is as good as they come. Brace yourselves folks this surely has the makings of a weekend never to be forgotten. To survive in the country’s elite league one will have to horn all their beastly skills and instinct and also wiggle like an eel lest they find themselves in the scrap-yard. Well this is of course inevitable as everyone will be going for the kill.
The First Division will also be explosive with yet another Cape Derby getting the ball rolling, Rushin Bowers in all his glory and vast experience will be hosting an elusive Keeyam Schoeman at Narans whilst in Gauteng travelling partners Ishmael Mthethwa and Nicky Erasmus will be taking on another KZN duo this time in the form of Sylvester Henry and Lenny Ramghulam, these athletes will not be taking any prisoners but seeking to sink their canines deep in the foes’ tissue to lay a solid foundation for the turbulent ride ahead, after all the first cut is the deepest. Those who survive the BPL mostly treat it like a sprint and every tear drop and every grain of concentration counts and like most sprints, you win or lose it at the very beginning of the race.
The newly launched Second Division adds somewhat a twist to the whole adventure and everyone in here is fairly new or unknown to many. Well this is about to change as the BPL promises to unearth those rare gems and that hidden talent roaming the streets of South Africa. Zaid Kara and Mabuti Olwethu Mbotyeni make the trip to Port Elizabeth to take on Juandre Jonck and Donovan De Doncker, yes Juandre is a Jonck and we will use his results in the BPL to check if his DNA matches that of the other Jonck… you know who…
