The Gateway Rumble….then there were 32
Ready or not, the car needs a brand new owner and that lucky someone is one of the 32 remaining athletes. The one frame decider can be a very cruel way of competing as there is always that possibility of an opponent breaking off and cleaning the table. In the last 64 Wandile Shabalala broke dry and Devesh Singh cleaned up. Another very lucky winner was Jason Theron who has his celestial angels to thank after his opponent rattled the black leaving it at the pocket mouth for Jason to tap in.
Could this turn out to be Sandile Madlala’s tournament, will it be David Anderson driving away in the spanking new BAIC D20 or will it be the usual suspect Aden Joseph who will add on to his ever increasing accolades? Well Ishmael Mthethwa is still in and so is veteran Loetfie Nasiep who seems to have managed to stay competitive defying the laws of ageing. Jeremiah Naidoo just survived a scare as he went all the way to a penalty shootout with Leeroy Markgraaff after the 10 minutes allocated for each match had lapsed. Castello Naidoo took out Capetonian Shaun Martheze in the last 64 and he will now have to find a way past Jason. Veterans Mervin Donnelly and Moses David will be involved in a local squabble for berth in the last 16.
