Keegan Pillay in a mood to play lately, Charl hands the number 10 Jersey to Lack-lustre Aden…
If you’re happy and you know clap your hands!! If you’re happy and you know and you really want to show it stamp your feet!! Well that will be the case if you are Keegan Keegza Pillay. If you remember very well last year Mr Pillay narrowly survived relegation and the wife must have had a tough word with him. I suspect she sat him down and said “Look hubby I suggest you stop playing and start playing, I didn’t get married to a loser” and being the good husband that he is, Keegza took heed and voila! What do you know, the guy lost 2-0 to Sly in KZN and has since won 5 matches back to back, now that’s a huge leap whichever way that you may choose to scrutinize it. This week’s victims were big wigs Gumz and Leenash Padayachee, well done Pillay and with that achievement you have earned yourself the Sheriff’s Toast of the week!. Keep it up. Could this spell mean that Keegan is Premiership bound or is it too early and I might just jinx it?
Could the window of opportunity be slamming shut for Aden? Once again the Wonderkid was out of sorts as Charl was dancing to the beat of his own drum much to the distaste of the visitor. Well of course Aden was coerced into singing along and I can understand and you would too if you have seen a matador in action, the bull doesn’t always win but a good fight it puts up although it’s mostly the red cloth that pays for the waver ‘s misdemeanor. Charl Jonck outclassed the U18, U23 and Mens Singles Champion in all departments, Mlungu played like a boss and his potting ability was hair-raising. His number one Cheerleader and significant other Tennielle Sabaddin-Jonck led the chants and she brought with her very well serviced vocal cords. She definitely has his back and losing to Aden would have made her cry and no, Charl didn’t want that. The 18 year old was deflated like a pancake and tossed about ala a Frisbee, and not even the Sheriff could come to Aden’s rescue. The whole thing was like poetry and Aden’s title hopes may be over but there is nothing new in losing 4 in a row, last season both Charl and Sbu each hit 5 consecutive loses but they didn’t even have to fight relegation instead it seems to have made them stronger than ever before. Keep on keeping on young man, it’s early days. My recommendation to you is that you will have to learn to hit the ground running because it’s a war out there and you’re going to have to do more than just pulling up your socks. The final scores were 4-1 in both sets, Aden may be going through the furnace right now but that’s the same process that gold has to endure before it outshines all, I can tell you now that his best is yet to come and time is the distance between now and then but for now the message from Aden is that “It doesn’t matter who you are, wherever you are, I will find you and I will lose to you”
While the BPL team was enjoying the fresh breeze in the windy city of Port Elizabeth, Cape Town stalwarts were in Johannesburg to pick a bone or two with Sbu and Vish the Dish. Saturday was a good day for the visitors; Ace took care of Vishen 2-1 at Timeout whilst Paul narrowly beat Chillies at Dejavous with the same margin. The inland boys were never going to take it lying down, they really took it to the Cappies, believe it or not, Ace has never won against Sbu in the BPL and the status quo prevailed, once again Chillies won 4-3, 4-1. Paul has a recurring system malfunction and once again the bug reared its ugly head, I am not going to talk about a world infamous mishap but I will just say that against Vishen Paul missed the blackball not once but twice spoiling a very good unprecedented record 12 wins in a row, it could have been 13. Paul won the first set 4-0 earning a valuable 4 points in that set to keep him in title contention but he will have to try and not lose again. The Dish played his heart out and handed Paul his first loss of the season by taking the last two sets 4-2 and 4-3. The weekend’s results catapults Chillies back to the number one spot 3 points clear of Yulan but of course Sbu has played one more match than Hawkeye.
Keegan and his partner Azim Hoosen hosted Leenash and Deon ‘Dangerous Gumz’ Daniels in a battle for top spot and with Keegza in terrific form; it would take something special to curb his enthusiasm. Gumz was the first victim succumbing 2-1 but Leenash was not so lucky, Keegza walloped him 4-1, 4-0 and ended number one on the Log. Mr Padayachee had off course won his match against Azim on Saturday and the bearded killer was too wounded to repel Gumz, yes he won the first set but Deon came back and made amends in the last two sets on. Deon was not going to lose 3 in a row and this seems to be a tougher season compared to the previous one where he started like a runaway train.
Juandre is a Jonck and Jonck’s are a dangerous breed of players. On Saturday Zander Kriel from Bloemfontein was annihilated side by side with Aden. One could swear that the Jonck brothers had left their meat pies outside the warmer and were in a hurry to eat their food before it got cold. Both Juandre and Charl were done in with their victims in around 60 minutes. The score was 4-1, 4-0 for Juandre and he went on to beat struggling Nelson Stokwe 4-2 and 4-1 on Sunday. Nelson also lost 2-0 on Saturday against Donovan De Doncker. Big Guy was brought crumbling to his knees by a determined Zander Kriel, I couldn’t believe my eyes but Zander was unshaken at all and he did prove that David does beat Goliath. Despite the loss, Donovan retains his number one spot 3 points clear of Yacoob who remains the only guy that has not lost any matches yet.
THE BPL NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!!
