BPL weekend ahead…
It will be quick and it will get ugly this weekend when the ‘New school breed’ of players go head to head in the BPL top flight league this weekend and all that will be left at the end of Sunday will be nothing but a bloody crimson tide. Sandile Madlala and Nsovo Mathonsi will play hosts to Sibongiseni ‘Sbu Chillies’ Gumede and Vishen ‘The Dish’ Jagdev at Ball Breakers and at Dejavous respectively. All athletes are under 30 years of age and as expected, everyone should be quick on their feet and the crowds will be the biggest beneficiaries; these players will not disappoint. In fact these are the type of matches that you don’t want to miss out on, some futuristic pool will be displayed by these youngsters and the fans will also get a chance to win a golden ticket to the Arnold Classic just by playing in the Super Supporter Competition for only R50.
Sandile legacy Madlala will be playing Sbu first on Saturday at BB Cresta whilst Bana Shilolo will be hosting Vish ‘The Dish’ at DVM, and all these matches will be taking place at 3pm. Looking at the fixtures and the calibre of these players, many of you might be quick to think that Vishen is the weakest link in the fold, well you couldn’t have been any farther from the truth. Numbers don’t lie and if we take a closer look at the head-to-head encounters between these players in the previous seasons, a different tale unfolds.
Sandile and Sbu have met 4 times before and the results are 2 wins each, Sbu dominated the first season including that infamous 4-0, 4-0 score against Sandile but Legacy (Then Django/Big Dogg) came back smoking hot last season and won both his matches against his childhood friend. Nsovo only came through to the BPL last season and played twice losing on both occasions against Sbu. This might not mean much after all this is history right, but history always finds a way of re-writing itself once too many times.
Vishen and Legacy have met 4 times (Vish replaced Wetsi who had already beat Sandile in their first match) and surprise, surprise ‘The Dish’ won 3 of those 4 encounters but lost both matches in the two encounters versus Nsovo. In fact stats are not always right but neither are they wrong, Shilolo and Vishen finished on a high note last season with both players narrowly escaping the axe and they know very well the importance of a solid start if one is to survive in this tough elite league. They both turned the corner by beating Charl in his own backyard last season, actually Nsovo beat Charl twice last season and Vishen went on to win against the one and only Yulan ‘Hawkeye’ Govender and that was the match that salvaged his stay in the Premier league. Sbu is the only unbeaten player thus far, and surely if he wins both his matches this weekend, he might as well have paved a very clear path to that elusive number one spot. Will Vishen remain without a win after this weekend? Will Legacy make it two in a row? Like Sandile, Nsovo has 1/2 wins this after the Assassin committed the perfect murder in the City of Gold. Some say you’re only as good as your last match, let’s wait and see.
In the first Division KZN duo Lenny Ramghulam and Sylvester Henry take on Gauteng snipers in Azim Hoosen and Keegan Pillay both matches on the Saturday and again on Sunday will take place simultaneously at Hotshots at 3pm.
The BPL would like to officially welcome Kevin ‘Big Kev Shushu’ Seseane to the Second Division as he hosts a very competitive Port Elizabeth Pair in Donovan De Donker and Juandre Jonck (No relation to Charl), all the best big guy, you have only one of two choices Kev, you swim with the Sharks or your name is on the menu.
THE BPL NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!!
