THE BIG BANG THEORY TO HIT JOBURG THIS WEEKEND…
Brace yourselves Jozi, something big is heading your direction, whatever happens in Cape Town is always felt in Johannesburg and this time it is big and it is loud and it is imminent. No, this is not the weather forecast but ordinary BPL news. Have you heard of the Big Bang Theory? Yes, No, Maybe…? If you are in Joburg this weekend, 8-9th of August, consider yourself lucky. The mystery will be unraveled right before your eyes; Paul ‘The Gentleman’ Bennett is on his way to Jozi for his two matches against Sbu Gumede and Vishen Jagdev. Paul has a break so powerful, so loud and so effective it might as well be the Big Bang Theory… yep that age old incident that changed the face of the earth as it was and gave birth to what it is presently. Paul’s break is a game changer and he owes most of his success to this monster break. In fact looking back, Paul hasn’t lost a BPL match since the World Championships that were held in Scotland in Oct-Nov 2014. The last time Paul lost was against Ace then Yulan and that was at the end of the first round last Season on the 26th of July at Nick’s and on the 9th of August 2014 at Swerve respectively. The Gentleman hasn’t lost a match since then, he won all 9 second round matches thereafter and if we include the two from the current season, Paul has gone 11 BPL matches without a loss. Now that’s not all, in the process Paul managed to bag 31 apples last season, but well he ended up in second position in the league but I can tell you now that Paul is the man to beat. He is the only guy that’s still unbeaten this season; will he remain unbeaten after playing against Chillies on Saturday at DVM and Vishen ‘The Dish’ Jagdev on Sunday at Timeout? Time will tell, supporters are urged to come in their numbers to set precedence of what’s to come once the BPL hits the big screen in 2016. Paul will of course be with none other than his partner in the force, he and Ace will look to iron out a few creases in Joburg but I doubt Sbu and Vish will rollover and give the other cheeks.
In PE Charl Jonck will be on a mission to control juvenile delinquency when he takes on 18 year boy turned man turned legend, the Wonderkid Aden Joseph who has had somewhat a hiccup in his account in the Premier League. Aden needs a win so desperately like you don’t understand, let me put it to you this way, Aden has played 3 matches and lost all of them, he is the reigning u18,u23 and Mens singles Champion, champions hate to lose and Aden is no exception. Will Charl make the boy cry or will this weekend be the moment when Chilliboy turns a corner? Charl himself needs the win, and he wouldn’t want to lose two matches on the trot at his own backyard. These two are both Snooker players and the match should be characterised by sublime potting prowess and rabbit out of the hat snookers and very few mistakes. This match will happen at Pool City in Port Elizabeth on Saturday at 3pm and I read somewhere that Muzi Fuze will be on hand to give live commentary. The last and only time these two met was at the BPL Showdown at the RandShow earlier this year and Charl made mince-meat out of Aden in full view of his father, how could you Charl.
Deon may have been humbled by Mr Padayachee over the past weekend but these two will have to bury the hatchet and form a formidable force if they are to make their presence felt in Johannesburg this weekend when they face Keegan and Azim. These GP killers are oozing with confidence after a successful weekend having annihilated Ishmael Mthethwa and manhandled Nico Erasmus in the case of Keegan. It would be interesting to see how Leenash fares, he still is doubted by many and he slowly is making a good name for himself, his start reminds me of Charl in the inaugural season, everyone thought he was a fly-by-night and he would fade into the horizon at sunrise little did they know that he was the real deal. Azim will host Leenash at DVM on Saturday at 3pm and Keegan will be entertaining Gumz at Timeout at that same timeslot. Keegza and Zimo will swap partners on Sunday but the match at DVM will take place at 3pm whereas Keegan at Mr Padayachee will commence at 1pm at Timeout. Keegan and Leenash have met once before at the Showdown and Keegza emerged victorious but that was in April. Will history repeat itself or will Leenash redeem himself?
Port Elizabeth will also be graced by his excellence Nelson Da Prezident and Zander Kriel for their 2nd Division match against Juandre Jonck and unbeaten Donovan De Doncker. It would be interesting to see how cool as a cucumber Donovan holds out against a crafty Nelson Stokwe. Nelson knows all the tricks in the book and if the match turns into psychological warfare then maybe just maybe Donovan might not be without a loss at the end of Saturday. Zander on the other hand is much disciplined and tactically aware; he might just do to Donovan and Juandre what he did to Thamsanqa a fortnight ago after all this is the BPL and everyone in it is a worthy opponent, let’s see what happens…
THE BPL NEVER DISAPPOINTS!!!
