The ultimate player hands out punishment…
THE ULTIMATE PLAYER HANDS OUT PUNISHMENT, ADEN HUMBLED IN THE CITY OF GOLD
Week two and the sparks continue to fly. The ultimate player was in town to hand out some ultimate punishment to all and sundry. Charl Jonck is everyone’s worst nightmare and if you happen to cross paths with him you’d better be in full bulletproof armour lest you be mince meat and trodden over. It was a normal day in the office for the loner from down under, who would have thought that Charl Jonck who ended 5th last season would bounce back in the manner that he did, no sooner did he win the Ultimate Showdown at the RandShow did he catch a wake up and reclaim his glorious position as the apex predator. As we speak Charl is perched pretty on his porch sipping on a cocktail and savouring the moment; what a great start it was indeed. Sandile Madlala is not your average opponent either and every player in the land needs to be mentally apt when taking on Legacy. On home soil Madlala can be twice as potent and in typical fashion he won the first set convincingly with a 4-2 score but that could have been a terrible mistake that evoked the Assassin within Charl and the rest as they say is history. Jonck outmuscled Sandile 4-3 in the second set but went ahead and blew last season’s number 3 seed into smithereens with humongous 4-0, yes a bonus point in the deciding set. Charl didn’t stop there, the mission was only 50% accomplished for the Assassin, there was yet another project that he still had to take care of in Mondeor. Project Nsovo went very well for the Ultimate player, call it revenge or just another meal served cold but if you recall, Nsovo last season was the catalyst behind Charl’s demise, he and Vishen ambushed the Assassin and fed him to the vultures. Not only did they jeopardise his chances of retain his number one spot but they had him fighting relegation in a way.
Legacy must have taken the loss in his stride as just another occupational hazard and you should have been there to witness the manner in which he manhandled poor Aden Joseph. Sandile was at his usual best on Sunday against an ailing Aden who had had his armour poked severely on Saturday by Bana Shilolo. Legacy walloped the newcomer 4-2 and 4-0 to make for Saturday in grand style and not even the good lot of troops in his camp which included amongst other people Dean Joseph (Dad), Alden Joseph (Brother), Kevin Sesane and Keenan Adams could inspire the Wonderkid to victory. Sandile was just phenomenal on the day and Aden had a premier league debut to forget but who knows, the Alpha-Wolf might just bounce back, he always does. After all, a bad beginning makes a good ending. Nsovo was the first to welcome Aden into the Premier league and their match drew a record 100 strong crowd but it wasn’t to be for the country’s Champion, Bana Shilolo was untouchable on Saturday and if he maintains his cool, I think he might be a threat at the top; forget I said that please but to sum it all up, I’d say Nsovo plays pool the way it should be played, he redefines simplicity.
Team Nick-Ish had a mixed bag of results once again, the Capetonians proved to be too salty for the Joburgers. It was basically a tale of two halves if you take a closer look. Saturday belonged to the hosts and the guests were the last ones smiling on Sunday. Ishmael had no trouble taking care of Yummy on day one but honestly Keeyam has himself to blame for what could have been a dream weekend for him, he was leading 3-0 in the first set and his mistakes allowed Ishmael to crawl back and eventually win the set 4-3 and the second one 4-2, Yummy’s concentration kept taking a dip and I don’t understand why at this level of the game any athlete should be struggling to concentrate. Nicky also won his match against Rushin at TimeOut after losing the 1st set 4-1, he went on to win the next two 4-1 and 4-3 respectively. Yummy then decided to right his wrongs on Sunday at Nickie’s expense, Erasmus won the 1st set 4-1 only two lose the next two 3-4 and 2-4 but he had his travelling partner Ishmael to give a shoulder to cry on and to lick each other’s wounds. Ishmael bowed to Rushin Bowers who must have pulled a Cape gang face to get Mthethwa to soften. Rushin won 4-0 and 4-3 respectively and ladies and gentleman that’s what the BPL is all about, each and every one of the athletes is a champion and anyone can beat anyone else on any given platform and Rushin is as tough as nails, he has been a mainstay in the Cape’s set up and the experience he possesses is a bonus in his arsenal.
Thamsanqa ‘Rea Vaya JB Inc’ was the other Sowetan flying the flag high in the BPL. He took care of Shameel Singh properly at Swerve in Pietermaritzburg, Thami won 4-1 and 4-0 and collected 3 apples in the process. Shameel had his house ransacked once again on Sunday this time by a robot, Yacoob was also not taking any prisoners and he left no stone unturned in making sure that Shameel remembers or rather forgets this past weekend. Yacoob won 4-1 and 4-2 missing out on that much needed bonus point. In Free State, the only other Second Division match saw Zander Kriel locking horns with his mentor, Nelson Da President Stokwe; Zander won the 1st set 4-3 but Nelson outwitted the youngster 4-1 and 4-3 subsequently.
